Interview Format Essay Discussion Paper
Interview format with an initial interview of a client.
Conducting an initial interview would use the approach presented in Morrison (n.d.). The first step in the interview process entail conducting an introduction. At this point, the setting of the interview is presented while collecting demographic information along with any other generalized background information that would improve the therapist’s understanding of the client. In addition, the introduction sets the mood for the relationship between the client and therapist, focusing on the need for cooperation to achieve the desired treatment outcome. The second step involve collecting information on the current problem. This entails reviewing the available medical records while asking the client to expound on the current problem that warranted therapy. This helps the client to identify the source of the problem as well as the nature of the problem, with this information being important in directing the treatment approach to be applied. At this point, the therapist is expected to apply observational skills that note the verbal responses and nonverbal cues. The final step of the interview involves closing the interview with an assurance that the current required information has been collected and would be used in developing effective treatment approaches, as well as when, where and how future contact will be achieved to proceed with the subsequent treatment process (Morrison n.d.)Interview Format Essay Discussion Paper.

Interview format used by preceptor for the initial interview of a client.
The initial interview by the preceptor was conducted with a client who sought psychiatric treatment. The first step of the interview focused on welcoming and setting the client at ease. In this case, the preceptor welcomed the client to the interview in a cordial manner while also explaining the interview purpose in terms of what is expected and how it would proceed. The preceptor also explained that the interview would be recorded for review purposes but that the information would be kept secure and only be used for treatment and no other purpose. The second step involved exploring the psychiatric issue that galvanized the patient to seek treatment. The preceptor took occasional notes during this process, maintained eye contact with the patient and appeared very observant. It was notable that the preceptor was keen in the client’s nonverbal cues. The third step of the interview process involved the client asking questions about the psychiatric condition and treatment in terms of what to expect from the process. The final step was the interview ending whereby the preceptor made an appointment for the next treatment session Interview Format Essay Discussion Paper.
Most helpful element of the interview.
The most useful element of the interview is the performance element that revolves around what and how information is collected. This is a useful element because it offers information on the client’s needs that necessitated the interview. With this information it is possible to develop and apply an effective treatment plan that takes into consideration the expectations. Should the performance element fail, then it would be difficult to understand the prevailing problem and develop an effective treatment solution. Also, all other subsequent efforts are likely to fail since they would be based on erroneous information (Sadock, B., Sadock, V. & Ruiz, 2014). As a result, performance element is the most helpful aspect of the interview Interview Format Essay Discussion Paper.

Week 1: Psychiatric Assessment of the Adult and Older Adult Many assessment principles are the same for children and adults; however, with adults/older adults, consent for participation in the assessment comes from the actual client and not parents or guardians. The exception to this is adults/older adults who have been determined incapacitated by a court of competent jurisdiction. Some adults may be easier to assess than children/adolescents as they are more psychologically minded. That is, they have better insights into themselves and their motivations than children/adolescents (although this is not universally true) Interview Format Essay Discussion Paper.

Older adults present some of their own unique assessment challenges in that they may have higher levels of stigma associated with seeking psychiatric care. Additionally, there are higher rates of neurocognitive disorders superimposed on other clinical conditions such as depression or anxiety, which creates additional diagnostic challenges.
