The highlights of this law is that it grants money towards federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) and opioid treatment programs (OTPs), states to implement strategies for pharmacists to dispense naloxone pursuant to a standing order and to develop naloxone training materials for the public, to expand the availability of medication-assisted treatment in areas with high rates of heroin and opioid use, and requires Nurse practitioners and Physician Assistants to complete 24 hours of training to be eligible for a waiver to prescribe and must be supervised by or work in collaboration with a qualifying physician.
