Examples of inter professional communication observed
During the IPE simulation activity, there were three main examples observed in relation to patient health care. These examples came from an injured patient during a training session and include athletic trainers, nurses, and respiratory therapist. At the very beginning of the event, a victim was lying on the ground, which could be a result of injuries sustained during a training session. Afterwards, tow rescuers mainly consisting of athletic trainers came in the scene. Their work is to provide immediate emergency services to victims. In this process, they communicate with victims by asking questions related to the cause of injury. They provide first aid services as they await an ambulance in emergency cases. In addition, the trainers provide communication links between ER nurses and injured victims by explaining the causes of injuries or medication provided.
The second scenario involved the nurse in the ER who was to handle the injured victim on arrival at the hospital. During this stage, the nurse had to listen to every detail from the point where the victim was injured. This includes any medication given by trainers prior to an injured person admitted to the hospital. With such information, the nurse performed the required physical examination based on health histories and administered medication from the results found. The third scenario involved the respiratory therapist whose responsibility was to handle recommendations provided by the nurse. The therapist also asked questions regarding the cause of injury in the training ground and communicated with the nurse on the way forward. This also included information concerning patient statues or rights among others.
Evaluation
The strength of the first example involving trainers is the saving of lives with provision of first aid services like neck support. Conversely, scenarios of inappropriate services could occur if the victim provided wrong information. In relation to the ER nurse, detailed and full information is necessary in performing right procedures like physical examination and administration of the right drugs or cause of action since they are supposed to save lives. On the other hand, miscommunication could lead to administration of wrong actions or drugs endangering a victim’s life. Finally, the therapist role is also to provide proper care based on nurses’ recommendations. Student simulation is important in different ways by recognizing complications and using the right procedure to provide proper care based on recommendations. This could be important in providing best practices in clinical settings by combining multiple interventions and management in relation to patient treatment and care. Additionally, simulations enable one to identify possible challenges and promptly address them. Simulation also helps in visualizing threats and ways of handling them. For example, simulation would help in cases where an accident has occurred and there are wounded victims. Furthermore, communication and teamwork are important for successful clinical interventions.
