Human bodies consist of various types of tissues, bone, muscle and organs. They are metabolically active or inactive in relation to formation of fat tissue. It is very important where the body fat is stored, as certain health risks are associated with too much fat. For example the fat, which is situated under the skin, is called subcutaneous fat and the major risk related to it is deposition of fat around organs in the abdomen. Individuals with apple shape bodies have their main fat storage in stomach area and there is a risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and breast cancer. Pear shaped body types have their fat storages in hips and thighs. A great role in distribution of fat is played by genes. However, such factors as environment, ways of living, age, stress, etc. could also have their impact upon fat formation. Overweight individuals might suffer from low self-esteem, depression, social isolation. Physically they are inclined to develop heart diseases, respiratory problems, diabetes, ovary cancer. Doctors have the method of measuring “healthiness” with the help of defining of body’s fat and non-fat in comparison of one person to another. This measurement is made in the body mass index (BMI). BMI helps to understand, whether an individual’s body weight differs a lot from the one, which is considered acceptable.
Modern world has to go through the period of changing eating habits, because grocery stores are full of such foods, which have high fat, a lot of calories and sugar. A lot of people prefer fast foods, because they do not cost a lot and could be obtained quickly and do not need any additional places to store. People are used to be in a hurry and this is the reason, why they appreciate everything able to save their time, including fast food. In addition rapid development of innovative technologies led to creation of a great number of time and effort saving products, for example elevators, cars, so that people do not have to walk that much, dishwashers and computers, so that people do not have to move that much in general. Genetic factors are not strong enough in order to define, whether an individual is going to be obese or not, but still in combination with environmental factors and eating habits they are able to increase the risks of obesity. Physical problems are associated not only with diseases, but also with such eating disorders as bulimia nervosa, anorexia, binge-eating. According to American psychological association (2011) research has found that individuals with anorexia nervosa have a mortality rater eighteen times higher than peers, who do not have eating disorders. One of the greatest problems is obesity by children, which could be in most cases explained by the lack of home cooking and overusing of fast food restaurants. Marketing technologies nowadays are designed in such a way that they would attract young generations. In addition urban environments make their contribution into lack of physically active way of living for young people.
There are a lot of strategies of weight loss, there are medicines offered, which are said to help to reduce the fat. There are a lot of diets and programs for correct eating habits. The best option seems to be the combination of corrected eating habits with regular physical activity. Treatment of such eating disorders as bulimia nervosa, anorexia, binge-eating should not be neglected and be conducted under the supervision of specialists in order to avoid devastating effects.Body Fat & Eating Disorders Essay
