Combining Nurse Leader With Advocacy

Nursing leadership is as vital for healthcare as a breath of fresh air after stiffness. Four aspects – personal and professional accountability, career planning, personal journey disciplines, and reflective practice reference behaviors/tenets – shed light on powerful and influential skills and changes within the healthcare environment. The paper reveals these four principles overall, implying that both weaknesses and strengths are evident in the majority of nurses seeking for alterations. Admittedly, weak and strong factors solely relate to my own experience and practices, though I reckon that most nurses will be able to link all of them to their individual life events.Combining Nurse Leader With Advocacy

Personal and Professional Accountability

Nurses face various difficulties on a daily basis, which gives them a huge responsibility in fulfilling their job successfully and sufficiently. Professional accountability is of priority when dealing with different patients (Reed & Shearer, 2009). It requires a set of efficient, professional skills, clinical knowledge, and trustworthiness in the work ration. Also, the strength of both professional accountability lies in the overlap with personal one since profession significantly depends on own personality and inner world. Though sometimes it might be challenging to balance occupation and private life, the top nursing accountability gives the best of skills, practice, and knowledge along with controlling personal feelings and admitting any hazards and faults.Combining Nurse Leader With Advocacy

Besides, weakness may lie in the hectic workload, which sometimes makes a nurse “out of line and fails to accomplish her accountability and leadership growth” (Reed & Shearer, 2009). Simply put, utilizing each difficulty, obstacle, bias, and misunderstanding, a nurse will have the strength to reach professional success, and managing loyalty, persistence, and ethical considerations, a nurse will beat weaknesses to come to personal accountability’s benefit.

Career Planning

It is significant both for nursing students and experienced nurses. Career plan comprises strengths and weakness, which can be either improved or gained. For instance, strong sides such as persistence, experience, preferences, specific goals, and a set of necessary skills are key points in reaching career goals and making changes in the chosen occupation. Unlike all of this, the lack of skills, low determination, and vagueness of values in the specialization may diminish the career path and even slow a nurse down in mapping out new alterations within the professional. To be a real leader, a nurse needs to review all past innovations and make up something unique so that the nursing career will be vigorously thriving and all these weaknesses may vanish down the road.Combining Nurse Leader With Advocacy

Personal Journey Disciplines

Would it be wrong to say that all humans have weaknesses about discipline? It does not imply that everyone cannot control themselves, but sometimes people focus on their personal issues rather than ethical norms. Journey to discipline is challenging in nursing since a nurse has to know how to talk and behave with patients on a daily basis. That is why a nurse has to work on self to boost this discipline (Reed & Shearer, 2009). Indeed, nursing is the discipline itself since it requires rational thinking, high-quality healthcare delivery, interaction, social skills, ethical considerations, high morale, and other crucial aspects. Hence, the strength of personal journey disciplines is, in fact, hard work and persistence. Learning is also a strong factor to achieve this discipline since the storage of knowledge and skills boost experience and professional accountability, which results in nursing’s discipline.

Reflective Practice Reference Behaviors/Tenets

Competence and tolerance are top priorities in reflective practice. A successful nurse always respects diversities in cultures, religions, ethnic, and other significant details. Reflective thinking is both an internal and external process that promotes self-understanding and improved critical thinking skills (American Nurses Today, 2013). Believe it or not, but it is possible to become a nurse leader just by expanding horizons of verbal and non-verbal communication and competent development alongside being an active listener/learner and building relationships based on mutual respect and appreciation. In other words, a nurse needs to be reflective, i.e., reflect her ethical norms, discipline, life experience, qualified skills and knowledge, a set of leadership approaches, and personal and professional accountability.Combining Nurse Leader With Advocacy

Leadership Skill Set and Advocacy

I do believe that fulfilling and enhancing all above-analyzed aspects in nursing; I can reach excellent leadership skills and eventually become a nurse leader. The nurse manager is responsible for creating safe, healthy environments that support the work of the health care team and contribute to patient engagement (AONE, 2015). Simply put, the role of a nurse leader is creating an influential environment both for me, healthcare professionals, and patients. It is highly important to take on board all strengths and weakness to convert them into the successful career path by improving leadership skills and gaining new professional streams to be more engaging and impacting in the healthcare industry.

Moreover, I can affirm that working on myself 24/7 I can contribute a lot of essential things both to experienced and inexperienced nurses in the future so that they can also enhance their nursing practices and get leadership skills which are necessary for healthcare. Advocacy in nursing is crucial as we progress towards the state-of-the-art direction of the healthcare industry. Accordingly, I believe that my responsibility is to improve all above-stated strengths and turn my all weaknesses into opportunities and career plans.Combining Nurse Leader With Advocacy

Conclusion

It is no question that nurses contribute to the biggest workforce in the industry, which leads to the idea of enhancing the healthcare world by all means. Leadership is of importance, and nurses should not avoid or suppress its essence in their occupation since a nurse can be a leader. Taking into account four aspects of nursing, each of us can reach the goal of perfection, success, and management at the workplace. Therefore, leadership growth should never be put to stop; leadership growth should be underway so that nurses can prove that they can be accountable both for outstanding healthcare to patients and being a leader.
