Importance of Listening

Good listening is important. Whether you are a student, wife or a parent, how you listen will determine if you get the message that a speaker intended for you. Through listening the learner picks up vital clues, some consciously, others subconsciously, about what constitutes idiomatic spoken English. The learner may also register and retain words and phrases which, having heard them from a native speaker or their teacher, they know to be acceptable for their own use later on. Many students and employees forget the information imparted in the lecture or any meeting because they make certain mistakes while listening; however, they try to listen actively but some mistakes while listening can put all their effort in vain.
