Using proper APA formatting, cite the peer-reviewed article you selected that pertains to your practice area and is of particular interest to you and identify the database that you used to search for the article.

Article:

Al-Jundi, A., & Sakka, S. (2017). Critical Appraisal of Clinical Research. Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 11(5), JE01-JE06. https://doi.org/10.7860/JCDR/2017/26047.9942

The selected article is Al-Jundi and Sakka (2017), a review article that explores strategies for critically appraising clinical research. Published in a peer-reviewed journal, the authors denote the position of clinical research in evidence-based practice (EBP), explaining that EBP can only be achieved if clinical expertise is integrated with the best available evidence. The article’s content is of particular interest because it presents a simple and robust process for assessing the value and credibility of articles can determine if they are useful for EBP Critical Appraisal of Clinical Research Discussion Paper.

PubMed databased was used to search for the article. This database has been available since 1996 and has a reputation as an indexed catalogue for medical publications. In fact, the database is an online resource that supports search and retrieval activities targeted at accessing biomedical and life sciences literature. The literature are particularly focused on improving global and personal health. While the database does not include full texts on the publications and only offers citations and abstracts, it includes links from which the full article can be accessed. To access the full article the database provides links to other databases such as PubMed Central and MEDLINE, all databases that facilitate additional text searches with access to more literature (National Library of Medicine, 2022) Critical Appraisal of Clinical Research Discussion Paper.

Explain any difficulties you experienced while searching for this article.

The PubMed database contains a large amount of publications with a large diversity. Although the publications are indexed with the database containing tools for refining the search, still the search presented a time challenge. Going through all the publications identified in the search results made the search process a time consuming and inefficient exercise. To identify the articles to be used, there was a need to first identify each source before evaluating the article for quality and relevance (Levay & Craven, 2019) Critical Appraisal of Clinical Research Discussion Paper.

Another difficulty was that the search was shallow as typing a keyword or query presented results that are relevant to the keyword alone without taking into consideration any synonyms or related words. This makes it possible to miss important yet relevant results. Yet another difficulty is that the database lacks sufficient guidance and evidence grading. EBP aims to optimize decision making in medical practice through placing emphasis on evidence from well-designed and well-conducted research. This requires that evidence be graded so that the weaker evidence only yields weak recommendations while strong evidence yields strong recommendations. If the database could identify the evidence level of the publications, then this would make it easier to assure users that the publications are from reliable and verified sources (Levay & Craven, 2019).

Would this database be useful to your colleagues? Explain why or why not. Would you recommend this database? Explain why or why not.

The PubMed is useful for medical personnel as it focuses on biomedical and life sciences publications. All the publications are on health and biomedical fields and related disciplines such as chemical sciences, bioengineering, and behavioral sciences. In addition, the database is designed with tools for refining the search results thereby easing the search process. Besides that, the database has links to other databases where users can access the full article. The links allow users to access more publications. Furthermore, the database is free to access and does not require a subscription. This allows users to access the database from any place, only requiring an internet connection (Levay & Craven, 2019). In this respect, the PubMed database is useful for colleagues Critical Appraisal of Clinical Research Discussion Paper.
