Family and its Role in the Community

The family forms the unit of a community, the initial cell at an institutional level and the significant bridge upon which every generation crosses to give birth to the future generations. The family is a fundamental social unit in the community through which new born children are first introduced into the world (Redding et al, 2011). The family also establishes primary channels through which new born children learn the fundamentals of the community, such as values, language, habits, and norms of behavior, social and psychological leniencies. The family, therefore, is the environment of cooperation between a woman and a man forming the domain that supports a child’s upbringing (Redding et al, 2011). Families are built upon holy bonds and mutual contracts of tranquility, kindness and love between two couples. Families form responsive units to the needs of community members providing the freedom and support required for the promotion of community development.Family and its Role in the Community

In a community context, families play a role in protecting and sustaining the human race. Through family life, safeguarding of lineage and descent is possible. The family also ensures the intactness and freedom of the society from the aspect of immorality based on strong values and commitments to society based principles (Redding et al, 2011). The social structure in the community is intact only upon adhering to the proper building of a family. Without family commitments to the community’s well-being, the community is afflicted with cases of moral degeneration and social decay. Families also ensure the community is secure against cases of diseases since they form the source of chastity, bounty and cleanliness through preserved moral principles (Redding et al, 2011).

Example of a Conceptual Framework for Family Assessment

A conceptual framework for family assessment articulates the vital pathways through which interventions result in desired outcomes (Kulbok et al, 2012). An example is the family as a pathway to a healthy and competent community. Such a conceptual framework ensures the provision of an evaluator with elements to assess through giving a set of concepts and key constructs (Kulbok et al, 2012). This is to outline the significant factors in family assessment.Family and its Role in the Community

Community-based Services in the Promotion of Health for Families

In the promotion of health for families, community-based services are established to support families in building capacities and strengths in health contexts. Such services have a common goal in ensuring families have healthy environments that enable community-building process based on respect and equality (Kulbok et al, 2012). Some of the community-based services in my community include:

  • Child and adolescent community health services: This ensures there is a comprehensive range of family health promotion through focusing on growth and development of children, and promotion of wellbeing especially during childhood.
  • Family support programs: The programs form a conceptual approach towards empowering and strengthening communities and families through programming to foster favorable family developments (Kulbok et al, 2012). They ensure the quality of life of families, and their children are improved to minimize cases of neglect and abuse.
  • Respite case: The services provide childcare assistance to families temporarily. Services usually target the families with children with special needs and/or disabilities. Respite services assist in improving the satisfaction with parenting experience and enhancing the capability for families to cope with stress (Kulbok et al, 2012).Family and its Role in the Community

Necessary Nursing Skills and Strategies in Promoting Positive Family Interventions

In promoting positive family interventions, the necessary nursing skills and strategies include evaluation of the readiness of parents to face and accomplish the lifestyle changes that are significant in improving family wellbeing (Kulbok et al, 2012). This is especially fundamental in parenting styles. The skills also involve advising families on the steps to consider in developing plans of action, reflecting on family intervention related outcomes, and listening to responses from parents as family heads.

Counseling techniques engage families especially parents in important conversations concerning behaviors that contribute to family development. This may involve informing families about the strategies and opportunities in enhancing social structures to ensure there is a reliable environment for the family to progress socially and economically (Kulbok et al, 2012).Family and its Role in the Community
