Gibbs Model Of Reflection Example Paper

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of the author’s knowledge by exploring some relevant facts related to an episode of care. In this paper, I will select an episode of care – a situation or event – for an individual in which I have been involved in during practice placement and use Gibbs model of reflection as a structure to describe that episode of care. Furthermore, within the reflection, I will include an examination of my own values and beliefs relating to the individual receiving care, and/or their families/carers. Finally, within the reflection, I will use theory related to values and beliefs to explore how these values and beliefs underpin my practice. In the next section, I will discuss my experience in the light of Gibbs reflective model.Gibbs Model Of Reflection Example Paper

Discussion & Analysis

In this reflection essay, I am going to use Gibbs (1988) model of reflection. This model will be used to assess the patient whilst being placed for 16 days in a major government owned hospital. Gibbs model of reflection consist of six stages, where the stages link with each other making a continuous cycle to facilitate critical thought, relating theory to practice where this model allow me to see my weaknesses and improvements during my clinical placement. Gibbs’ model of reflection encourages you to think systematically about the phases of an experience or activity, and one should use all the headings to structure your reflection (Gibbs, 1988, pp. 23-29). This model of reflection also a good brainstorming of experiences that will end up with solutions to be made and things to be fix and for us to be aware in the future. Gibbs model of reflection starts with description of the event. The second stage is the analysis of the feelings; the third stage is the evaluation in which I will evaluate the effectiveness of the activities that I have executed during my community placement. The fourth stage is the analysis of the process, while the fifth stage is based on the conclusion in which I will summarize the activities and practices executed during my placement. Finally, the fifth stage is based on the discussion of actions plans for future endeavours.Gibbs Model Of Reflection Example Paper

Description

The purpose of this section is to describe the happenings that took place during my community placement. I was opted to work in the surgical ward in one of the government major hospital for my first clinical placement. The ward was dealing with mentally ill patients. Mental illnesses, like physical illness, may take several forms. Many people fear mental illness and often misunderstood. This fear will disappear when people are better informed. Mental illness and brain disorders cause suffering and disability, and may even shorten life, as seen in episodes of depression after a heart attack, disorders of the liver resulting from alcohol dependence or suicide cases.Gibbs Model Of Reflection Example Paper
