One highly publicised story in today’s society is concerning the television reality programme “Big Brother”. Two of the contestants, Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty, have been surrounded in controversy over a race row that has even ended up being talked about in parliament.(Waugh & Davis, 2007) “Shilpa has been mocked by Jade and others over her food, accent and her behaviour. Jade backtracked and apologised to Shilpa. Shortly after calling Shilpa “Poppadom” and “Shilpa F***awala”. Yet when jade was confronted by Big Brother she said “If I have offended any Indians out there I apologise.” Speaking to Shilpa she said “I didn’t say it in a racial way.
