This condition can also occur when the red blood cells have not enough hemoglobin to provide the iron-rich proteins that provide the red color of these cells. Having anemia means that the body tissues and organs are not getting enough oxygen-rich blood, which in severe cases, leads to the damage of the heart, brain, and other body organs. Severe anemia is a life-threatening disease and can cause the death of the patient.
