Dialysis is considered an effective solution for those who experience problems with kidney functioning. As known, kidneys play a core role in a person’s body and help to eliminate waste materials out of the blood. When kidneys stop working properly, dialysis can save a person’s life. There are two types of dialysis: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Both procedures help to remove the waste and extra fluid from the body. Both kinds of dialysis treatment have their complications, risks, and negative sides but evidence indicates that in general peritoneal dialysis patients “are more satisfied with their overall care and believe that their treatment has less impact on their lives than do HD patients” (Juergensen, 2006). Analyzing your post, both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis can be effective in case of kidney failure but both types possess their risks and benefits. Hemodialysis can be more convenient for patients but treatment process can make patients tired and exhausted, which in its turn may lead to low blood pressure, depression, anemia and so on. It is also important to follow strict, limited diet during treatment. Peritoneal dialysis gives patients more freedom and they can continue their treatment at home but at the same time it may cause inconveniences because of the catheter presence. Comparing the costs between the two types of dialysis, peritoneal dialysis is considered more affordable than hemodialysis. In general, comparing the patients’ quality of life for the peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis, no matter what kind of dialysis a doctor prescribes, patients should follow a set of common rules and responsibilities that involve healthy diet, blood pressure control, regular medicine control, and so on.
