In this section you will discuss how researchers establish validity in qualitative research.  This is different from the evaluation of quantitative research.

  • Credibility – believability and trustworthiness of the findings. Think of this as internal validity
  • Confirmability – describes how well the research finding are supported by the actual data collected
  • Dependability – refers to the consistency with which the results could be repeated. Did the researches document any changes or unexpected occurrences that might have affected their findings.  Think of this as reliability.
  • Transferability – the degree tha the findings of the research can be transferred to other contexts. Can the information be applied to other similar settings, population or sitatuions?  Think of this as external validity Maternity And Water Birth Safety Essay Assignment Paper

Quantitative Study I (author(s), year and title)

Utilizing the evidence hierarchy, discuss the type of research conducted and where it falls on the 8 level evidence hierarchy.  Be specific.  Is it level II evidence (RCT) or is it Level VIII (expert opinion) and what does this level indicate about the evidence?  The pyramid can be found in the Module 8 lesson folder, figure 14-11.

Evaluate each article based on the GRADE criteria.  Is the strength of the evidence very low, low, moderate or high?  Analyze each article individually and then determine the overall strength of the evidence that you have gathered.  The GRADE criteria article can be found in the Module 8 assignment folder.

Practice Recommendations

Based upon the research articles that you have reviewed, what are two practice recommendations that you would put into place?

Strength of Recommendations

Once you have decided what you would recommend, you should then evaluate each individual practice recommendation using the GRADE criteria and determine the overall strength of each recommendation.

Key Stakeholders

Three key stakeholders were identified for the project. The first group of stakeholders are the health care providers who include physicians, nursing personnel, health care workers, discharge planners, nursing assistants and others. They are important to the project because they are involved in its implementation in terms of translating policy into practice. In addition, they provide professional opinion that informs the project recommendations. The second group of stakeholders are the patients. They are important because they are the targets of the project and provide primary data that informs the project results and recommendations. The third group of stakeholders are the health care facility administrators. They are important because they support the project through funding. In addition, they offer administrative approval before the project can proceed. This is particularly true when the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is involved and there is a need to access health records (Harris, 2015)Maternity And Water Birth Safety Essay Assignment Paper. In this respect, the three groups of stakeholders that are important to the present nursing project are health care providers, patients, and health care facility administrators.

Engagement Strategies

The project acknowledges that the three groups of stakeholders (health care providers, patients, and health care facility administrators) are important for the project’s success. The health care providers are low influence and high interest group. As such, they will be engaged through consultation and participation. Consultation will involve having communication forums with the providers where the project details will be presented and their opinion solicited on the project aspects with the intention of making changes and improvements. Through consultation, they will be involved in the project with no responsibility and influence outside of providing their opinions. Participation will entail having the providers implement the project. Participation will entail having them as part of the team where they deliver tasks. The partients are a high interest and low interest group. As such, they will be engaged through participation whereby they will be recruited in implementing the project with the intention of collecting primary data about effects of the intervention. Their responsibility will be in being subjected to the intervention and providing feedback. The health care facility administrators are a high influence and high interest group. They will be engaged through partnerhships that sees them have shared responsibility and accountability for the project thus allowing them to be part of the decision-making team (Harris, 2015). In this respect, the three groups of stakeholders will be engaged through consultation, participation and partnership Maternity And Water Birth Safety Essay Assignment Paper.

Resistance Strategies

The project acknowledges that although the project is intended to realize positive outcomes, there is a possibility that some of the stakeholders could be resistant to the intended change. Given this awareness, the proect has identified seven strategies to minimize the resistance to change. The first stategy is to create a supportive a positive environment that inspires creativity, honest communication, and free thought so that the issues that cause the resistance are identified and addressed. The second strategy is to empower creativity and innovation among the stakeholders. This will entail offering opportunities for feedback while remaining flexible on the project implementation. This will allow the stakeholders to discover solutions to unfolding issues that have the potential of derailing the project. This will also ensure that the stakeholders become a part of the project (Harris, 2015; Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2011). The third strategy is to apply persuasive arguments that convince the stakeholders to support the project by presenting its opportunities and positive effects. The fourth strategy is to exhibit passion that exhibits confidence in the intended change. The fifth strategy is to resolve conflicts effectively and quickly so as to control and regulate communicative breakdowns thus engendering mutual respect, trust, honesty and openness. The sixth strategy is to set engaging, achieving and challenging objectives that clarify milestones while celebrating achievements. The progression on how goals will be achieved will show how the project ties in with the facility beliefs and values. The final strategy is to structure the project team to maximize the members’ potential with focus on giving them appropriate responsibilities and roles that make the best use of their knowledge, skills, experiences and competencies (Harris, 2015; Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2011). The presented strategies are anticipated to help in minimizing resistance to the change brought about by the project.

Evaluation

Over the course of the project, data will be collected to determine the project’s effectiveness in achieving the intended objectives. The project intends to show that subjecting breast cancer patients to peer support groups will allow them to experience a faster return to normal daily activities. As such, the evaluation will collect the patients opinions concerning the period before the project was implemented and after the project was implemented. The ficus will be on determining if there are notable differences between the when peer support groups are used and when they are not used. The evaluation will also make use of descriptive statistics to generalize the differences between the two periods in terms of percentages. The evaluation will be conducted at the conclusion of the project (Creswell, 2013; Porkoski, 2018)Maternity And Water Birth Safety Essay Assignment Paper.
