NURS 4210 Week 4 Discussion

Disaster Planning

Scenario 1

Currently, the world is going through the Covid-19 pandemic making it difficult to discuss the flu in our jurisdiction. However, most precautions taken during the covid-19 pandemic will be beneficial to the case in scenario 1. As a public health nurse, I will conduct health talks across my designated area about the pandemic flu. In addition, I will create awareness about the sign and symptoms of the flu. Moreover, I will involve all the community health workers to provide health talks to the community about the causes, home remedies and prevention of the disease. NURS 4210 Week 4 Discussion

Currently, most business have been closed entirely while others are operating for few hours and others are working in shifts due to the panic caused by the flu pandemic. However, the business owners can take advantage of the few operational hours to restock their stores. In addition, the business owners can take an audit on the products that will more fast during this pandemic and stock more in bulk (FitzGerald, Tarrant, Aitken & Fredriksen, 2016). Restaurants on the other hand have closed down the eating joints and the dining area due to the fear of the flu. However, the restaurants can launch home delivery services and sale of take away food to keep their businesses running.

Scenario 1, Part B

The influenza cases have continued up surging putting the business owners at a risk of experiencing losses since large crowds and gatherings have to be prohibited. The government is at the verge of banning large conventions to avoid further spread of the flu (Jester et al, 2018). Therefore, the business owners should encourage their clients on social distancing to prevent further spread of the influenza flu. I would recommend events to only people not exceeding 50 where people will maintain 1.5 meters distance from each other. In addition, the business that do not necessarily physical engagement can start planning for virtual meetings.

Scenario 3

Day care is an institution that provides care and supervision of toddlers and infants during the day when their parents are engaged in their work places (Jester et al, 2018). As a public health nurse, I would provide the directors of the day care centers on the guidelines required by the health ministry for such an institution during the pandemic. First, I will ensure they introduce a handwashing area for the children and the staff members. In addition, I will advise them on how to practice excellent handwashing as required by the health ministry. In addition, I will ensure the toys used at the day care are cleaned and sanitized regularly to prevent spread of the flu. NURS 4210 Week 4 Discussion

Moreover, I will give the teachers the guideline on the signs and symptoms of the flu where if they detect a kid to be symptomatic, they will immediately report the case to the nearest health center. Additionally, all sick children will strictly be picked by the parents to avoid further infections. The day care is also expected to formulate flyers that they will send to parents to guide them on the measures they are supposed to take. The flyer will guide the parents on the actions they are supposed to take to prevent further spread of the pandemic (Callaghan, 2016). The day care will also be prohibited from engaging in any sporting event since the perspirations produced when playing can lead to more new cases. Eventually, all stakeholders are expected to work hand in hand to ensure all the professional disaster preparedness measures are taken into place.
