Nursing Assignment Paper on Potential Barriers

Evidence based practice (EBP) is a predominant care model that helps in facilitating the necessary research evidence for the clinical experts to obtain optimal outcomes in healthcare. Nonetheless, several barriers have been identified that may prevent EBP of a health care facility from obtaining the desired results or healthcare outcome within a specific period of time. The barriers include insufficient time and patient and physician factors which are analyzed below and ways possible ways to overcome them.Nursing Assignment Paper on Potential Barriers

  1. Insufficient time

It may be challenging for those conducting EBP to obtain the same desired results within a period of six months to one year because time of the limited time available to identify the right literature for research, review them with their colleagues before implementing the findings (Shifaza et al, 2014).  Some of the ways in which those who conduct evidence based practice can overcome the insufficient time barrier is by managing their time. The focus group involved should ensure that they allocate time for every activity that they intend to carry during their research-based practice.

  1. Patient and Physician factors

When conducting research, physicians and patients tend to differ in regards to beliefs and values which may end up conflicting with the care provided based on the high evidence available. For instance, physicians may fail to question the traditional habits of practice of the nurses since they believe that the practice is either outdated or not important (Tacia et al, 2015). In the end, when it comes to treatment plans, there may be contradictions especially when new evidences emerge which may end up affecting the outcome. The best way to overcome this barrier is to ensure that before beginning EBP the nurses and the doctors ascribe to the same believes and values such that when new things emerge during the practice, there is a clear understanding between them.Nursing Assignment Paper on Potential Barriers

In conclusion, some of the barriers to EBP may include insufficient time and patients and physician factors which can be avoided by having the same values and beliefs and also through proper management of time. Nonetheless, it is important to have the right strategy when conducting EBP to avoid any form of barriers in future.Nursing Assignment Paper on Potential Barriers
