Organizational Change Essay Paper
For a healthcare organization to achieve change, initiatives aimed at quality improvement need to become part of the organizational culture instead of something added to the clinical routine. Creating an organizational culture based on positive change will ensure that both old employees and residents follow the evidence-based practice, thereby positively impacting patient outcomes and HCAHPS star ratings (Al-Hussami et al., 2017). Nurse leaders also need to be well versed in the role of technology in organizational change. Nurse leaders should ensure that all medical records are contained within their facility’s Electrical Medical Records and Hospital Information systems to promote the ethical principles of justice, beneficence, nonmaleficence, accountability, fidelity, autonomy, and veracity. Information within these systems will ensure that all practitioners remain accountable to these principles, to the patients, and each other’s practice. All decisions will be based on facts within these systems (Barrett, 2018).

For change to be sustainable, it must be supported by a majority of stakeholders. Nurse leaders have a role in ensuring that all stakeholders have the facts they need to make decisions. This will mean educating patients and their families on conditions and interventions. It will also mean delivering reports to other departmental heads and the board of directors, encouraging them to continue supporting the change in question. Advanced practice nurses interact with patients more than other practitioners and are therefore best equipped for this role.
Finally, for change to be justifiable, it needs to be based on research and best practice. It is also the role of nurse leaders to launch investigations into best practice and justify it for this change to be acceptable to those leading their organizations and their practice in general, from best practice in preventing HAI such as CAUTI to interventions for COVID19 patients in ICU. Nurse leaders are in the front line in gathering data, analyzing it, and forming conclusions (Boyal and Hewison, 2016). Organizational Change Essay Paper
