The topic of the pamphlet is nutrition for kids aged 2 to 18 years. Obesity is one of the most concerning issues of children this age. While kids eat fruits each day but when it comes to vegetables and legumes consumptions, they lag behind (Heard et al., 2020). Obesity is one of the main issues that children and adolescents face in Australia. With the increase in fast food chains and sugary drink intake, the weight management of children has become a concern. This is a serious concern within the Australian community as this affects almost all the population, especially those who already live in poverty and disadvantage. Affording vegetables and fruits can be difficult for them and the children born in these households might be dependent upon fast food and carbohydrate-based diet in their daily lifestyle. National survey in Australia shows that children and adolescents do not consume a balanced diet from all five categories. While they consume grain, meat and dairy and some fruits, vegetables are mostly ignored (Smith et al., 2020). This creates serious issues with health and immunity for children and has long term effects in bone health and development. It impacts a large population and leads to complex health issues within the target population.

Surveys conducted by Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) shows evidence that lack of nutritional and balanced diet is a prevalent issue among the children of Australia (Barnes et al., 2020). The children and the adolescents did not meet the recommendations for vegetables. For fruits, children aged between 2 and 8 met the recommendations while children aged between 9 to 18 did not. For grains, only boys aged between 4 to 11 and girls aged between 9 to 11 met the recommended levels of intake. For meat and alternatives majority of the children did not meet the recommendations. In dairy consumptions only the children between 2 to 3 years of age met the recommendations. This shows that there is a high prevalence of lack of nutritional food intake among children in Australia and adolescents are more likely to have lack of balanced diet. In Australia, one in six children aged between 4 and 15 are likely to be overweight. One in 14 in this age range are obese (Jennings & Bamkole, 2019). The pamphlet makes their target audience clear by the use of specific phrases like “your child” and the use of interesting infographics and pictures to attract the attention of the general public. The poster is informal in nature with clear and specific guidance on servings, creating balanced meals, encouraging children and ensuring variety in every meal. These topics and the presentation and delivery method indicates that it is meant for non-clinical purpose and for larger population.

It also gives strategies to the audience about increasing the interest of the children in positive eating behaviour. There are clear guidelines and suggestions which makes it easier for everyone to follow, despite their educational background and literacy. Moreover, it also creates a colourful and interesting infographic that is likely to attract the attention of the audience and create better impact. The principles of primary health care are accessibility, public participation, health promotion, appropriate technology and intersectional cooperation. A nurse while working as a primary health care provider in a clinical setting where she ensures accessibility of health care, nurses can work for health promotion at the community level (Huisman et al., 2020). They can address various health needs of the local population and increase awareness of the population. Additionally, while working in a clinical setting, a nurse can promote public participation by encouraging the patient and their family to take decisions about their health and provide all the necessary information so that the decision is informed with evidence. As a nurse, I was able to address all these issues and areas of primary health care. I also ensured to consider community health needs and consider the impacts of various approaches for the best outcome. While working as a nurse in primary setting in my future placement I would also ensure that I use appropriate technology to increase accessibility. I have seen the increasing use of telemedicine and mobile applications to promote health awareness. I will use such technologies as they can increase accessibility of health care (Lee et al., 2018). Through telehealth, people from remote locations too, can access health care. I would also work towards policy making advocacy to improve the social and economic situation of my clients.
