I encountered with J.D an African American female aged 30 years. She was diagnosed with acne, specifically pustules. The client had red, swollen, and painful bumps that were filled with pus in the whole face. According to Benjegerdes et al. (2016), pustules are characterized by red and swollen bumps. Patient decision aids from the Ottawa Hospital (2020), was utilized during the treatment process. The outcomes of the treatment plan were impacted by incorporating patient preferences and values. For example, consideration of the client’s preferences and values when choosing the treatment plan influenced the overall outcomes. The client preferred oral treatment, specifically antibiotics. She believes that oral antibiotics are the most effective treatment plan for reducing acne spots. These drugs work by suppressing hormones that trigger acne while others reduce the amount of oil released by the body (Fox et al., 2016). Also, antibiotics kill bacteria, which cause acne. Additionally, the trajectory of the situation was impacted by including patient preferences and values. The client was responding positively to the recommended treatment plan.Patient Preferences and Decision Making
The selected value of the patient decision aid might contribute to effective decision making. In the future, the client’s preference and values will be considered while choosing the most appropriate treatment plan. This move will enhance health outcomes. This decision aid inventory is applicable both in personal life and professional practice. It will guide in making the best decision for a particular situation.
