A Personal Leadership Philosophy Statement

My personal leadership philosophy is focusing on presenting smart solutions. As a leader, it is not uncommon or unusual to encounter challengers. This is especially true for the health care environment where every decision relies on how information from multiple sources are interpreted. As a nurse and leader it is my belief that not every challenge is what I caused. Rather, it could be something caused by others and which I have to face in the course of completing my duties and responsibilities. For instance, if I start my shift and discover that an inpatient is developing a pressure ulcer that has not been documented and was previously undiscovered by other medical personnel. In this case, focusing on the pressure ulcer would not address the immediate needs of the patient. Instead, focusing on the care of the pressure ulcer while preventing the development of additional pressure ulcers would be the immediate concern. In facing challenges, I perceive them as learning opportunities and am always optimistic in presenting a smart solution that allows me to stand out as a leader. I am enthusiastic about challenges and use them to cultivate new applicable skills. Problems do not frustrate or stress me thus making it easier to motivate others. Overall, my leadership style is all about working smart to inspire myself and others to overcome challenge and grow by focusing less on problems and more on smart solutions.Personal Development Research Paper

A Leadership Contract

I perceive my personal leadership philosophy (focusing more on solutions and less on problems) as a contact that empower me to understand who I am, what I aspire to become, and how I can best work with others to always improve. In addition, I now understand what I stand for, what is important to me, and can articulate the same to others. In articulating the personal leadership philosophy, I have taken an important step in creating an environment for ensuring that I achieve what is indicated. With the ability to articulate this philosophy to others, I can get them to know my expectations and how I am most likely to act given a standard situation. With this, I can engender mutual confidence and trust, and build a stable foundation upon with to achieve organizational effectiveness and build long-term relations. Obviously, the written philosophy is just one of the important steps in my development as a leader since it allows me to transform others into high performance teams. In this respect, the written personal leadership philosophy acts as a leadership contract that helps others to understand my commitment, personal idiosyncrasies, priorities, non-negotiables, personal values, aspirations, and expectations as a leader (McKeown, 2020).Personal Development Research Paper

A Personal Development Checklist

In a bid to develop as a leader, I have developed a checklist with seven steps. The first step is establishing a direction and purpose. The second step is identifying the need for development.  The third step is looking for opportunities to develop. The fourth step is formulating an action plan for personal development. The fifth step is undertaking the development. The sixth step is recording the outcomes of the development. The final step is reviewing and evaluating the results of the development (Ricketts, C. & Ricketts, J., 2018).
