Symptoms of PTSD

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) consists of three symptoms that are interrelated to each other: re-experiencing, numbing, and hyper arousal. These symptoms develop after an individual experiences a traumatic event. Traumatic events can include events that one actually experienced or events that one witnessed. Examples of traumatic events include physical or sexual assault and abuse, combat, natural disasters, terrorism, and serious illness (Kagee, 2002, pp 88).

Patients suffering with PTSD because of the trauma they have suffered. They face hallucinations and may become patients of personality disorder (Kirsch, 734-735). They get highly worried, panicked and distress when certain events remind them of that incident which caused that trauma. People who are patients of PTSD have increased arousals meaning they feel excessive emotions. They may feel sorrow to a very high level in which they might have trouble showing feeling or affection. They get difficulty in sleepy and get irritated a lot. They get very violent and show sudden outbursts of anger. These patients not only suffer physically but mentally as well. They get high blood pressure, rapid breathing tensions in the muscle nausea and diarrhea.Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Research Paper

2. Thinking from a bio-psychosocial perspective, what are some of the causes? Are there biological predispositions for this condition(s)? How does one’s environment have an impact on the development of this condition(s)? Are there some populations that are more at-risk than others?

Factors That Causes PTSD

After 9/11, the people of america were in deep tension and stress. Many parents, children, adolescents and old people were found to be PSTD patients. Many television programs and newspapers support this fact that after 9/11, the uncertainity of life and peace was the biggest issue in USA, specially New York and Washington. Many of these people are still tackling through this problem. But its highly desireable to talk about its root causes in detail, to justify the topic throughout the world (WANDA, P. 2004).Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Research Paper

The prevalence of PTSD has a direct relationship with the degree of exposure to traumatic stressful events, both natural (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions) as caused by the hand of man (war, terrorist attacks, violent attacks, etc). In all these conditions of persons belonging to targeted groups may have PTSD at rates of at least 15 %. PTSD may or may not develop in a person who is exposed to a traumatic event, depending on individual predisposing factors (vulnerability) and severity of the event (Parkinson,pp 1380).
