Principles of Management in Health Care Organizations
The article focuses on fundamental principles of management which are important in the contemporary health care organization. The main principle is the principle of efficiency which makes the efficiency of the performance of each employee the priority for the organization and its employees. Another important principle is the principle of mutual respect which means not only the mutual respect of all stakeholders but also their engagement into the improvement process to enhance the organizational performance. For example, employees of the hospital should be able to give their feedback and participate in the elaboration of plausible strategies to improve the organizational performance. The article teaches important “lessons” about the improvement of the organizational performance and effective management of the change. In this regard, the constant and effective communication between the project team working on the change and the communication between managers and employees is the main lesson to be learned from the case. Communication gaps would make such improvements impossible.
At the same time, the application of the LEAN has both strengths and weaknesses. On the one hand, LEAN does improve efficiency of the organizational performance and accelerates the work of health care professionals and delivery of health care services to patients. On the other hand, the risk of error increases and it is the life and health of patients that are at stake. Principles of Management in Health Care Organizations
Managers I interviewed agree that the methods described in the article are effective and they have already tried some of them and they brought them to successful introduction of changes in their organizations. At the same time, it is possible to apply the communication process to other organizations because it is quite universal and effective. In addition, LEAN may also be used in other organizations, but it has to be adapted to specific needs and goals of each organization.Principles of Management in Health Care Organizations
