Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities Essay Example Paper

Nursing involves more than simply performing tasks; it also necessitates the acquisition of fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable one to make good judgments and decisions in order to give excellent care to patients. Nurses are required to have excellent client observation and assessment skills, professional care abilities, communication abilities, knowledge of medical administration, knowledge of infection prevention and control, and knowledge of health and safety standards, as part of their job duties (Thomas, Seifert & Joyner, 2016)Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities Essay Example Paper.

Patient observation and assessment provided me with the opportunity to show skills such as pain assessment, measuring vital signs, preparing for patient discharge, planning and recording care procedures, and assisting the patient with bathing and showering, and other self-care undertakings. During the work placement, I was able to put my professional abilities to the test by assessing treatment, interacting with the staff nurses, doctors, and other clinical personnel, reaching clinical decisions, and being able to think critically. In addition, I was able to use effective techniques to ensure that the patient understood the treatments and interventions performed in order for them to provide informed consent (Sherman et al., 2021)Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities Essay Example Paper.

Although I was able to achieve the objectives set out for me, there is still a requirement for me to enhance my existing abilities and also acquire new ones in order to render my clinical care more productive and to achieve better outcomes for my patients. Through focus groups, seminars, and lectures, I will refine the skills I have acquired and acquire new ones (Price

& Reichert, 2017). Additionally, the mentorship element of the continuing placement will enable me to gain from and use advice from experienced nursing professionals.

*Students are expected to achieve competency with the clinical skills list

**Procedures are skills that may be available for students but are not required.

 Summary of strengths:

The decision to provide any nursing care should be based upon self-assessment of competency, following an assessment of the client and environment. A licensed nurse is accountable to be competent for all nursing care that he/she provides. Competence means the ability of the nurse to apply interpersonal, technical and decision-making skills at the level of knowledge consistent with the prevailing standard for the nursing activity being applied (Hodges et al., 2019). One of my strengths includes abiding by the FNP scope of practice. As a family nurse practitioner I will be the  primary health care provider. The FNP scope of practice enables the health care provider to assess, diagnose, and treat their patients as they see fit based on their clinical judgment. The family nurse practitioner scope of practice authorizes the nurse practitioner to order test and diagnostic procedures in order to aid in the diagnosis of their patient. An FNP also has the education in order to interpret these findings to direct the best care for the patient and guide their treatment plan (Ortiz et al., 2018). The scope of practice for family nurse practitioners will allow me to write prescriptions and therapeutic interventions for their patient while guiding the patient on health promotion and disease prevention through education Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities Essay Example Paper

 Opportunities for growth:

Throughout my years of practice I have steered away from pediatrics as a primary in bedside nursing because pediatric patients in the hospital tend to be terminally ill, neglected, or abused and I felt it hard to curve my emotions when dealing with such heartache and senselessness. Over the years of my own growth and development in nursing and working with a generous number of children in the emergency room setting I have learned that my knowledge and experience is to be shared throughout the lifespan of young and old and feel like I am right where my calling should be in a Family Nurse Practitioner setting. Throughout the next 11 weeks I plan to hon the knowledge and skills I have been learning for the last 2 years to facilitate positive social that has the capacity to impact the nursing profession, communities, and society. I plan to demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning while applying that learning to problems and challenges in healthcare. I strive to demonstrate information literacy while identifying, locating, evaluating, and effectively using the information for concerns noted. I will strive to demonstrate an understanding of the processes of inquiry used in the advanced nursing professional and practice legal and ethical integrity and effectively communicate ideas and the rationale behind them to others. I will support diversity and multiculturalism within the healthcare profession, communities, and society during my lifelong profession (Laureate Education, 2020). During this course, I plan to note concerns of infectious disease outbreaks and the growing issue of antibiotic resistance while becoming an antibiotic steward to prevent the overprescribing of antibiotics in situations in which they are not needed (Kean, 2020). I will also educate regarding topics such as vaping to children and growing young adults the eects of electronic cigarette use and techniques to help patients quit or refrain from using e-cigarettes (Kean, 2020)Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities Essay Example Paper.

Now, write 3–4 possible goals and objectives for this practicum experience. Ensure that they follow the SMART Strategy, as described in the Learning Resources.

The practicum session will provide me with an opportunity to acquire appropriate skills as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I plan to polish my adult, women and pediatric assessment and disease diagnosis skills within the firrst two weeks of this practicuum. My practicuum goals reflect my passion for people, especially women and children. My ultimate goal, as a family nurse practitioner (FNP), is to open a clinic that provides comprehensive and quality care to underserved individuals.

My goal for this practicum is to gain and obtain knowledge from a variety of patients. I will learn disease processes and be able to know how to care and treat the patient. I have always had a goal of working along with a surgeon in a specialty clinic. I still have this goal in the back of my mind, but as I continue with this class, I am intrigued by learning more about the whole body, disease processes, and treatments, and in the distant future, I may focus more on a specialty. During the first year of practice, the nurse practitioner faces challenges in establishing their identity with transitioning to a new role, leading to distress on the job and leading to essential accomplishments (Marcoux, Dickson, and Clarkson, 2019). Defining attributes of the role transition include the absorption of a new role, a shift from a provider of care to the prescriber of care, working with two identities, and mixed emotions (Marcoux, Dickson, and Clarkson, 2019). I feel these will all be challenges I may face within my first year of practice. Knowing I will have resources to use and mentors to utilize can help the transition more smoothly.

Another goal for this practicum mine is to take training courses to perform the removal of skin lesions, suturing, and joint injections. To achieve this goal, I can attend classes or conferences, which teach these skills. I will also use my future employer as a reference to look for courses to achieve my goals. After working and gaining experience, obtain a specialization in a specific area may be of interest to me in my career path. The advanced practice nurse plays an essential role in advocating for adult and child health that delivers high-quality primary care services (Burns, Dunn, Brady, Starr, Blosser, and Garzon, 2017, p. 8). I do want to continue my education while working. I want to learn more about my scope of practice and utilize the skills I have worked so hard for. I want to be able to have a general understanding of patient conditions of all ages.

Communication and listening skills, such roles as advocators, critical thinkers, and decision-makers are critical in the clinical setting. As a nurse practitioner, one of my goals is to polish my communications skills. Effective communication is the foundation for the provider-patient relationship. Effective communication and listening create trust between the provider and patient and improve healthcare quality and safety (Buttaro, Trybulski, Polgar Bailey, Sandberg-Cook 2013). This helps me as an APRN identify each patient’s unique healthcare needs individually, and allowing for appropriate collaboration is needed to improve patient outcomes. It also leads to APRNs as advocators for patients to include advocating for quality and cost-effective healthcare by providing ways to ensure patients can afford treatment options to ensure compliance with treatment. For example, if medications are expensive, I would offer samples to the patient or even attempt a different patient treatment. Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities Essay Example Paper
