Recommendations For The Future of Nursing Essay Paper
Indeed, United States has an opportunity to transform its health care system to a high quality care. However, to achieve a transformation there is need to remodel several aspects of the health care system. This is especially true for the nursing professionals. To support this, the IOM Future of Nursing Report (2010) depicts eight recommendations for transforming the future of nursing professionals. Among the eight recommendations, recommendation one resonates most with me in unifying the nursing profession on policy, education, practice, and leadership Recommendations For The Future of Nursing Essay Paper.

Recommendation one proposes removal of barriers in nursing practice to enable advanced practice registered nurses to practice the full extent of their education training (Bern-Klug, 2010). Such barriers include state practicing and licensing, physician related issues, and payer policies. Other barriers include inability for nurses to follow the patient when they are admitted to hospital. The existences of these barriers are significant obstacles to continuity of care. Removal of the barriers would unify the nursing professionals on policy education, practice and leadership in many ways. For instance, promoting privileges for nurses to operate as full active medical staff would promote continuity of care for their patients (Benner, 2010)Recommendations For The Future of Nursing Essay Paper. This coordination of care and transition into and out of community during illness would create a transparent and seamless process that allow providers to gain access to the patients they have cared and known (Genworth, 2012). Additionally, the removal of barriers would promote continuity of care, which is an important aspect when providing a patient-centered care. Therefore removing the barriers would promote team work among all the health care providers as well as promote efficient and cost-effective care.
It is conclusive that removing the barriers is a necessary element for providing superior primary care. Furthermore, nurses have demonstrated the ability to provide quality and cost effective care therefore no barriers should exist to prevent them from rendering their services (Institute of Medicine (U.S.) & Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2011)Recommendations For The Future of Nursing Essay Paper
