Child endangerment and abuse can formulate can many negative symptoms and ultimately mental health problems, in which this problems can affect them in his or her adult life. If a child is treated with care, he or she will grow up wanting to respect others, and empathize with others. The question is, How? How does child abuse effect and parental neglect affect people in adulthood? There have been countless studies on children, who have come from abusive or broken homes. Most of the studies focus on how that affects them and their families as they enter into adulthood. Researchers, also like to focus on three perspectives when it comes to child abuse: the mental,behavioral, and physical effects that follow. In studies researchers gather data in order to find out how the past experiences of child abuse and parental abandonment are correlated to long-term mental health issues. Researchers Afifi, Boman, Fleisher, and Sareen found that bad mental health are the common outcomes of child abuse and neglect, in adults. Even Masako Tanaka and other researchers concluded that child abuse, rather it be emotional or physical, was associated to low self-esteem, which lead to depression and suicidal behaviour. Kathleen Kendell-Tackett, in her research also found that childhood abuse put people at risk of depression and ptsd, which can lead to suicidal thoughts and even suicide. In 2007, Cathy Widom, K. DuMont, and Sally Caja conducted a study and found that those who were physically abused or neglected as child were more likely to develop mental disorders in adolescence and early adulthood. These studies suggests that child can lead to many psychological problems. Another thing that comes with child abuse, that researchers often study, is the behavior issues that follow. Violent behavior is often a long term effect of child abuse and neglect. In reading, I have gathered that children from abusive and broken homes will most likely have a troubled adulthood. However, some may argue that everyone that are victims of abuse will turn to trouble. In some cases may be difficult to make the link between abuse and the effects of abuse. Researchers don’t take into account the environment outside of the household or the economic restrains that some children may have also faced as children.
