The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services
Culture And Healthcare In Australia
Racial identity splays a vital role in the health care services in Australia because this is a country with high racial diversification. I am not neither aboriginal nor white Australian resident but have visited this country for attending registered nursing courses. The cultural difference is always prominent in this regard and I am trying hard to come up with the challenges and make sure I meet all the requirements of my clients.
The cultural dimensions relating class and ethnicity can be experienced in the Australian society and more specifically when I come across the clients visiting hospitals for recovery. Class division in the Australian society is based on the financial capabilities of people and these determine how the person will be treated by others. Despite the fact that the Australian legislation strictly prohibits discrimination on the basis of class and culture, the society practices the same quite frequently. I have come across certain patents who have a long history or poverty and resulted health loss.

Cultural background of the persons determine the reaction and facilities he will have. Once I came across a woman patient who did not intend to get treated by me as I was from other national and cultural origin (Power et al., 2021)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services. The biasness of being treated less had deprived me from gaining equal treatment within the team also. The nurses from aboriginal origin to them spread infection more than others. This cultural discrimination demotivated me.
In this course of healthcare urgency and support I have realized the responsibilities of a registered nurse and became more accountable with the profession. From different course activities, I have found out that my communication system is highly influenced by my cultural background so also my thought process. I need to enhance team work skills to learn from real life experiences and increase cultural competence as my team was culturally diverse and we treat culturally diverse community.
The fellow students are helpful in sharing knowledge through course materials and we promited integrity in the team. However, the difference of personality created miscommunication and flow of communication.
The cultural diversity improved our competence to work intercultural by properly understanding each other and meet expectation.
The code of conduct for nurses have mentioned about the obligations of registered nurses for mandatory reporting and lawful behavior. The RNs need to provide person centered services and respect cultural diversity so that the harassment, bullying and disrespectful behaviour are never practiced. We must be acting with professional integrity and maintain privacy of the clients to show respect. The code of conduct of the nurses are related to the sharing of knowledge and improvement of knowledge through sharing (Schill & Caxaj, 2019)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services. Moreover, we must be taking care of our health and practice the same for my colleagues so that there is no fatigue or personal health issues affecting client services. These codes of conduct guides me to provide the best care to my patients.
Code of ethics to me is a mandatory guideline for every profession that can bind the employees and management to follow ethical methods of problem solving. In the nursing profession, ethical decision making is vital for helping the patients and protecting them from all the odds. In addition to this I believe, the personal information of the clients are in our hand and we must protect them carefully. The tendency to show more empathy to one patient and depriving others will not follow social justice. I practice professional values and response to the crisis so that meeting ethical criteria become easier.
Challenges Of Cultural Diversity In Nursing Profession
Code of conduct in the nursing profession has several principles which enable the nursing professionals to follow ethical and moral path while serving the clients. In addition to this, the nursing professionals are also responsible to practice all the patients’ equality and must not practice any discriminative behavior. The 3.2 principle of code of conduct mentions about culturally safe and reliable environment so that the team members as well as the clients get proper support from the employees (Elvidge et al., 2020)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services. The principle has mentioned about safe and security aspects of service as Australian hospitals are accessed by all types of patients with huge cultural and ethnic, gender and age diversity. Hence creating a culturally safe and respectful environment is mandatory and it is our responsibility to understand that the persons and families determine how they have developed cultural values and beliefs and communicate accordingly.
Registered nurses are expected to acknowledge the cultural, social, historic and behavioral factors influencing heath of the individuals. They are expected to show respect and support these cultural diversity within the teams also because creative positive and culturally safe workplace is effective is mitigating any issue and enhance productivity. The code of ethics mentions about discrimination, racism, assess and disrespect among the team members also. These are contradictory for creating a safer workplace to grow collaboratively (Taylor & Guerin, 2019)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services.
This principle is closely related to the legal compliance as the employees can support directly to the higher authority in case any discriminative practices take place both for the clients as well as the colleagues. It is the morale obligation for the registered nurses that they will survive the highly labor intensive industry like healthcare and create an amicable relationship for the health care problems. Proper adaptation with the expectation of respecting all kinds of diversity and protecting each other sin the crisis situation are expected from the registered nurses practicing in Australia (Tremblay et al., 2020). Therefore showing cultural competence has become lawful behaviour for the nursing employees in every aspects. NMBA (2018) 3.3 principle is connected with NMBA (2016) principle 1.2 and 1.3 as nursing practices are dependent upon reflection, feelings and beliefs of the individuals. The aspects of protecting the Aboriginal and Tories Strait Islanders and people from other cultures are well connected here. Individual support here resonates to the community support in terms of healthcare services in the Australian health care system.
The story by Chimamanda Ngozi is based on her own experiences regarding cultural discrimination and the danger of one sided stories. For a long period of time, history has been learnt from one perspectives and that of the white Australians. These have created a partial understanding of the cultural and ethnic practices of the Australian standard culture but my value as an aboriginal community member is not same. I have come across several derogatory behavior due to my cultural racial background because the cultural knowledge and awareness is much less. This is the main problem in the country like Australia where a huge cultural diversity is perceived but awareness about this diversity is not present.
Code Of Conduct And Ethics For Nurses
Therefore, whenever I come across people of any other culture, I try to respect without knowing them even (Curtis et al., 2019)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services. My idea is to know their version also and then reach a solution. I am not judgmental and never disrespect people without any reason. I practically treat everyone equality even if I do not believe the same values. This is exactly the same for people with different sexual preferences, age and religion. I believe sharing knowledge bout these differences, we can develop a positive society and end discriminations.
Cultural safety is more related to the reflection of once on culture and practicing attitude about the others. I will develop a positive environment for living he is our responsibility therefore developing trust among the community members as well as the colleagues in the workplace are mandatory. Extending cultural safety is based on the values which are reflected through communication system of a person (Kurtz et al., 2018). Open and respectful communication can eliminate of conflicts and cultural discrimination within the organization. It is my responsibility protect my values and beliefs and perceive the same of others. Just because others have different cultural background I cannot is respect or degrade them anyway. Recognizing the stereo typical barriers against certain cultural community is not accepted. I must be recognizing these study or typical barriers and free myself from such thoughts (Stievano & Tschudin, 2019)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services. My culture has taught me to value hard work and honesty in Survival. As an aboriginal and Torres Strait islander I must practice respect for nature and human beings. I also respect others efforts despite I have no close proximity with their ethnic and religious practices. I am always prepare to engage with people and practice to a dialogue for sharing knowledge. Seeking cultural knowledge can enhance my cultural competence and demonstrate reciprocity (Cowin et al., 2019). If I show respect to the cultural background of other team members, then only I will be respected within the team and an engaged workforce can be developed. Comparing cultural safety from different points of view is mandatory because this widens the capacity to learn from life and have an unforgettable experience. My value of not judging others in terms of their economic background and ethnicity has enabled me to overcome most of the deprivation issues throughout my life and I extend support who need me in any situation have increased the number of well-wishers.
Social determinants of health is one of the major aspects of successful Health Care facilities provided to patients from different cultural background. The social determinants of health at the non-medical factors which can interview with the help outcomes. These are related to the situations with which people are born, grow and age. This is a wider set of forces that shaped conditions of the human life. Social determinants include the economic policies, development agenda, social policies, social norms and the political systems (Hartin, Birks & Lindsay, 2018)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services. Social determinants of health can reflect the inequalities practiced in the society along with the unfair differences of health status within and among the countries. The level of income is closely associated with treatment facilities provided to the citizens hence the people living in lower so she cannot position can suffer from worse health issues.
The Importance Of Cultural Competence In Nursing
I am an aboriginal student learing in Australia University for becoming a registered nurse and practice in this Hospital. I have faced several discrimination throughout my life. It is not only limited to my life only but also the generations before me (Birks et al., 2019). There is a history of conflict between the aboriginal Australian the white Australian regarding land natural resources available in the country. The cultural difference has led by forefathers to suffer from social and economic deprivation (Birks et al., 2018)The Role Of Cultural Diversity In Australian Healthcare Services. In government social protection were not provided to them and the generation was not educated formally. Unemployment had increased poverty and we could not available health care system practiced in the cities of Australia. My generation however has been supported by the government quit successfully and we were provided with formal education and Employment. In addition to this food in security and basic housing facility were not available for the aboriginal and Torres Strait initially. The system reason why victimization in terms of Healthcare facilities were more prominent. Accessing the portable health care services of a decent quality were not available for these people.

All of these problem situations have been faced by my ancestors but the situation has changed now. I despite come from aboriginal community, undergoes facilitative systems and establish my right as a human being. My early childhood development was quite successful which has helped me to purse you my profession (Hartin, Birks & Lindsay, 2019). The problems which my ancestors had faced in the Australian society is not repeated as the government laws protect the interest of advertisement people in Australia. The social determinants like income and Employment are not important for accessing Health Care facilities anymore. In this regard I can also mention about the United Nations initiative to protect the interest of every aboriginal community around the world who were not accepted within the society and deprived from all types of rights (Gray, 2020). Affordable health services are provided so that these people can survive without any problem. However I will leave that social determinants of health account for a large portion in the society in health outcomes but the contributors are constantly reducing and more equal society is being developed.
