Case Study
Jane is a female aged 57 years and has a medical history of chronic kidney disease and hypertension. The diagnosis was made with a Stage IIIB clear cell carcinoma of the ovary and the patient underwent a major surgery in the month of April during the year 2007. An exploratory lapartomy was undertaken when the patient started feeling physical discomfort. After the peritoneal chemotherapy, there was a development in the pelvic mass and the patient was made to undergo surgery for the removal of pelvic mass fluid drainage, intraperitoneal port, and pelvic biopsy. The patients suffering from cancer usually develop cachexia and need to be evaluated for the sufficient intake of nutrition. According to Martin (2006) malnutrition is one of the biggest challenges for the women who have one ovarian cancer: due to the treatment of the progressing disease, she may lose her appetite thus, resulting in a loss of weight.Theory Application In Nursing Practice
History
Jane, a female aged 57 years, is facing a medical history involving chronic kidney and hypertension disease. The diagnosis was made regarding the Stage IIIB clear cell carcinoma of the ovary and the surgery for the disease was performed in April of 2007. Jane was given18 cycles of intravenous and peritoneal chemotherapy and she responded excellent with a C-125 that reached to 10. After the chemotherapy got completed, the patient was again admitted on the 11/15/2007 for removing the pelvic mass status post peritoneal chemotherapy. A simple cyst structure represented the pelvic mass and was located with the bladder bilaterally. The removal of the lapartomy and peritoneal port through biopsies was elected by the patient in order to determine the characteristics and form of the abdominal cyst.
Nursing Care Plan
The diagnosis of nursing is nutrition, altered: less requirement of the body in relation to the enhanced requirements of calories and difficulty in gesting adequate amount of calories secondary to cancer (Carpenito, 2000). Patient appeared to have dry skin and a frail body. According to her height, she was also underweight and there measurements were taken in comparison to the BMI. The patient was provided the nursing intervention through explaining the requirement for sufficient intake of fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, protein, fluids, and minerals. The food preferences of the patient were determined the food to be provided was arranged.Theory Application In Nursing Practice
